Shastrang Indian modern martial art has been taught to 84,774 girl students in 1940 government schools of Haryana under the Project Rani Laxmi Bai Atma Raksha Prashikshan Programme. This initiative is a part of the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, implemented by the government of Haryana for the academic year 2021-22.

The Project Rani Laxmi Bai Atma Raksha Prashikshan Programme aims to empower girls and provide them with the necessary skills to defend themselves in any situation. The martial art form, Shastrang, is a unique blend of traditional Indian martial arts and modern self-defense techniques. It focuses on developing physical strength, agility, and mental alertness.

The government of Haryana recognizes the importance of equipping girls with self-defense skills, especially in today's world where safety concerns are prevalent. By teaching Shastrang to girl students in government schools, the government aims to create a safer environment for girls and instill a sense of confidence and self-reliance in them.

The inclusion of Shastrang in the curriculum of government schools is a significant step towards promoting gender equality and women's empowerment. It breaks the stereotype that martial arts are only for boys and encourages girls to take up physical activities that can contribute to their overall well-being.

Under the Project Rani Laxmi Bai Atma Raksha Prashikshan Programme, trained instructors are appointed in government schools to teach Shastrang to the girl students. These instructors are well-versed in the art form and ensure that the training is conducted in a safe and supportive environment.

The program not only focuses on physical training but also emphasizes the importance of discipline, respect, and self-control. It teaches the students how to assess potential threats, use their surroundings to their advantage, and employ techniques that can help them escape dangerous situations.

The government of Haryana has received positive feedback from the participating schools and students regarding the impact of the Shastrang training. Many students have reported feeling more confident and secure after learning the martial art form. The program

has also helped in fostering a spirit of camaraderie and teamwork among the participants.

The government of Haryana plans to continue implementing the Project Rani Laxmi Bai Atma Raksha Prashikshan Programme in the coming years to reach more girl students and provide them with the necessary skills to protect themselves. This initiative serves as a testament to the government's commitment to the safety and empowerment of girls in the state.
